Blocking

Blocking is a way of allowing the fibres in the yarn to relax. I always recommend blocking, as it helps even out the texture of the yarn and gives the finished garment a better shape.

I block my garments by placing them in a bucket or bowl of water and letting them soak for approximately 15–30 minutes. Then I gently squeeze out the water. Important: never wring the garment. After that, I lay the garment flat to dry and shape it as needed.

Stockinette stitch

Stockinette stitch is a term used to describe how something should be knitted to create a smooth surface with a V-shaped pattern.

When knitting in the round, stockinette stitch is worked by knitting all rounds on the right side and purling all rounds on the wrong side.

When knitting back and forth, every other row is knitted and purled. On the right side, knit stitches are worked, and on the wrong side, purl stitches are worked.

Outer shoulder point

The outer shoulder point of the sweater is the upper edge where the sleeve meets the yoke.
